This presentation should demonstrate your understanding of the course content, display creativity and be accompanied by a value neutral oral presentation. Course Objectives related to this assignment: 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9 EPAS Competencies related to this assignment: 3 Assignment Details Photovoice is a process that utilizes photography to represent ideas, research, problems and solutions from an individual or community perspective. Photovoice embraces the idea that “a picture is worth 1,000 words”, and utilizes photos to add impact to a presentation. This assignment should be informed by the research you conducted for the “Integrating Theory and Practice” assignment as well as additional content and insights from the course. Your oral presentation will be given simultaneous to the visual presentation (no voice overs) and should cover the following prompts in a focused, clear and professional manner: Articulate a brief context about your selected topic: Describe the topic Historical view – Create a timeline with brief descriptions specific to the progression of your topic. Prevalence – How widespread topic is in society? Describe the impact of this topic from an intersectional lens Ethclass Perspective – Describe the realities of race, ethnicity and class related to the topic. Cultural Perspective – Describe how the topic intersects broadly with culture (regional, national, geographic, identity, etc.) Provide context about progress and challenges experienced in this topic Ecological View – Describe the ways in which people cope with the realities of the topic; Describe power dynamics in the topic. Identify and explain how anti-oppressive (AOP) practice strategies have supported or can support change efforts to impact this topic. Who is doing the work in this area at the micro, mezzo and macro levels (i.e., individuals, organizations, agencies, groups) Critical analysis – how researching this topic impacted your social work practice and your social identities. PRESENTATION DETAILS: Oral presentation must be given in class – no pre-recorded voice overs 10 – 15 minute maximum time limit for individuals and 20-25 minutes for group presentations. 10-12 photos (50% of the pictures MUST be taken by you; 50% of the pictures may come from other sources) All photos must be cited Digital presentation must be uploaded to BB by the due date and may be in any digital format (iMovie, Prezi, PowerPoint, etc.) Peer feedback. Members from the group will grade each other and rank each other based on the amount of work that was contributed by each member. Class members will also grade each person’s presentation. Guidance regarding Consent: Written consent must be obtained from individuals whose images will be part of your presentation. If photographing a large group or community function where consent cannot or would be difficult to obtain – the student should aim to exclude identifying content (ex. faces) from the image. If recognizable information is unavoidable – students should blur or mask this information for the presentation. Guidance on Value Neutrality: Your oral presentation should be free of biased or emotional language. Although that is challenging for a topic of oppression, it is important to focus on presenting factual data to the audience with the intention of strengthening their professional capacity to work on this issue.
