Purpose: To examine a musculoskeletal disorder.
A healthy musculoskeletal system is essential to normal mobility and body support. Musculoskeletal
diseases and disorders beyond sprains, strains, and broken bones can be among some of the most
debilitating diseases. This assignment will provide an opportunity to explore musculoskeletal
disease.
To prepare for this assignment, you should:
1. Read Chapter 26
2. Read additional lesson readings in the course content folder.
3. Review APA Paper guidelines
To complete this assignment:
1. Research a specific musculoskeletal disorder in one of the following categories:
• Bone disease
• Muscular disease
2. Locate two recent (within the past 10 years) peer-reviewed research articles related to the
disease you chose. One article must represent a scientific-based narrative about the
condition itself. Another article should represent observational or experimental research
related to the disease. You may utilize other resources as needed to supplement your paper.
3. Write a 2-3 page paper that addresses the following:
a. Disease/disorder name and classification
b. Pathophysiological processes associated with the condition
c. Clinical presentation of the disease/condition
d. Effects upon an individual’s function
e. Factors that may influence occurrence and/or progression (environmental,
occupational, etc.)
f. Overall prognosis
g. Identify a recent research development related to this condition.
4. Follow APA formatting rules for margins, font, page numbering, grammar, punctuation, and
references and citations.
