The goal of this assignment is to familiarize you with the process of proposing

The goal of this assignment is to familiarize you with the process of proposing and justifying a research project – which you may have to do frequently in your future career. As a result, it’s a valuable skill to have.
Introduction – Provide an overview of the topic and the problem that you hope to address with anthropological research.
Ethical Considerations – Discuss the ethical challenges you might expect to face in conducting the research and how you plan to address them.
Relevant Research – Review existing research on the topic/problem that your research will address and identify key themes and trends as well as areas that require further research. (After you review the literature, you will provide a summary of the methods you would use to conduct the project that you are proposing. This should cover 1) data collection and 2) data analysis. You should be specific about the data you plan to collect, and how you plan to collected it. For example, if you plan to conduct participant-observation, describe the settings in which you think you would do those observations. If you plan to conduct interviews, describe who you plan to talk to, how many people you expect to interview, and what kinds of questions you might ask. For your analysis, will you use qualitative and/or quantitative methods? How will you conduct those analyses? Altogether, I would expect this to be roughly 1000-1500 words long with both the literature and the methods. The literature review would probably be longer than the methods section).
Methods – Identify what methods you will use and how you will carry out the research.
Conclusion – Summarize the project and explain how your research will contribute to addressing the problem that you have identified.
The whole proposal will likely be about 3000 words (~12 pages double spaced) long. That is not a concrete requirement, but rather a guideline for a well-thought-out proposal. You will not be penalized for coming in under or over 3000 words.
you should find at least 5 peer-reviewed anthropological sources relevant to the topic you are pursuing. To find sources, I would recommend using “anthropology” or “ethnography” as search terms and/or search within anthropological journals such as American Anthropologist, Human Organization, Cultural Anthropology, or Current Anthropology.
