In this week’s presentation assignment, you not only have the chance to demonstrate your mastery of the concepts covered in Weeks 1 through 4 of this course but also to practice professionally addressing your city council with your ideas for an Urban Plan.

You are also strongly encouraged to review the other recommended resources as they may assist you.
For this assignment, you will assume the role of an Urban Planning Director, and you will discuss the same urban location and focus policy area you have used throughout this class. You will create a professional presentation for your selected municipality’s city council that will provide a high-level overview of the Urban Plan you have developed and demonstrate that you have assessed its future impacts on budgeting and community development. This presentation ties to the Week 4 Urban Planning Report for Council final paper.
In your presentation,
Indicate the municipality and focus or policy area that the plan will be developed for.
Assess the current population and demographics of the community.
Explain how the makeup of the community should guide policymaking.
Assess the needs of the residents, the factors identified through the SWOT analysis, and how this local perspective might differ from a regional or national perspective.
Plan for land use (e.g., dedicated, mixed use, green space, economic development, revitalization or renewal, etc.).
Examine transit availability.
Outline three short-term goals (3–5 years) in order of priority, including an explanation of how priority was established.
Outline three long-term goals (7–10 years) in order of priority, including an explanation of how priority was established.
Explain any legal issues.
Indicate the theoretical model used to support your plan.
Estimate the budget forecast; what are the implications (e.g., municipal bonds, grants, private enterprise funding, etc.)?
Presentation Instructions:
Step 1

Step 2
Create a PowerPoint slide deck with visuals that will keep your audience engaged and interested.
Include notes on the slides that outline the talking points of the urban plan.
Include citations on the slides for any sources used in the presentation.
The PowerPoint presentation should be at least 12 slides (excluding title and reference pages).
Step 3
Write a script for your presentation that you can refer to while recording your video.Note: You do not need to turn in your script.
Step 4
Practice your presentation before you record it, using your script to guide you.
