Purpose Kretchmar (2005) introduces four prime values that guide our professional (and personal) lives – fun, health, knowledge, and skill. He also argues that despite all four being important, it is necessary to rank them and that our individual rankings can have far-reaching implications. Procedure Before completing this assignment, you will need to thoroughly read the “Physical Activity and the Good Life” chapter from the philosophy unit of this course. Write an essay that includes the following components:
1. Introduction to set up the purpose of your essay, including a thesis statement that
provides a “roadmap” for your essay (1 paragraph, no longer than a half page)
2. Provide and defend your ranking of Kretchmar’s four prime values.
o Defense should focus on why you ranked the values in the way you did. Kretchmar
provides a guide for how you can do this effectively with three rules to guide how
you weigh the evidence for each value. Your rankings need to be based on personal
exploration and critical analysis, not intuition. (Approx. 2 pages)
3. Conclusion and take-home message that includes at least one example of how this prioritization of values has impacted your life. (1 paragraph, no longer than a half page)
