Attend one self-help/12-step recovery group meeting. **Per Covid-19, you may attend an online group meeting. Paper should be 3-5 pages summarizing your experience and your reflection.
This experience is purposeful as it will expose you to how meetings work and will allow you to familiarize yourself with a potential resource you may refer to others.
12-Step meetings include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), AL anon (for family members of alcoholics), Nar anon (family members of narcotics addicts), and Codependents Anonymous (CoDA-family members of or friends of alcoholics/addicts).
Meeting Information:
Schedules for AA, NA, and CoDA meetings can be obtained from the following:

NA Hawai’i

You are expected to go alone-do not take a friend, relative, classmate or companion.
If you are not a member of AA or NA, you may only attend an “open” group meeting. Groups are designated as “open” or “closed” on the meeting schedules. “Closed” groups are intended for members only; whereas anyone may attend an “open” meeting.
Please get there on time and stay for the duration of the meeting.
If you are not in recovery, when/if you are asked to introduce yourself, you can simply say “I’m ______ (First name/college student), and I am here to learn about the program.” No other explanation is needed.
On a participant/observer continuum, your role leans toward the observer end. You may want to research the type of meeting you plan to attend as well as the philosophy behind the program before you go. To be a good participant/observer, you need to now something about what you are observing.
Groups vary in focus, style, and composition. If you are already a member of a recovery group, attend a group that is new to you. Try to attend a group that differs from your primary group. Attend a group where you will be a stranger.
Respect the anonymity of the people you meet during this experience
