Variables
IVs are Load (load vs. no load) and Valance of photos (neutral vs. positive)
DVs are emotional intensity and recognition errors, which are both continuous
Hypotheses
You have 6 hypotheses, two main effects and one interaction for each DV.
Emotional Intensity
H1 (main effect 1): intensity of emotions will be higher for positive pictures compared to neutral pictures.
H2(main effect 2): emotional intensity would be lower for the load condition vs. no load.
Interaction: intensity of emotions will be lower for those shown positive pictures under load compared to no load and those shown neutral images.
Recognition Errors
H1(main effect 1): errors higher for positive vs. neutral pictures
H2(main effect 2): errors higher for load vs. no load
Interaction: more errors for positive pictures compared to neutral and highest for those in the load than no load.
Analyses
You will test these hypotheses using two separate 2×2 Mixed ANOVA, one for each DV. If either of these interactions are significant you will use t-tests to tests for the significance of the simple effects.
For the results section, start with your first ANOVA, then describe main effect 1, main effect 2, and then the interaction. You also need to include your Means and SDs for all 3. Repeat this for your second DV.
