For this project you will explore using Microsoft Excel to quickly reformat large amounts of data
in an organized manner that would be usable to convey information. The data you will be working
with is for Pierce County, Washington (Tacoma) and consists of approximately 50,000 data points.
Learning Objectives
During this project you should develop or practice the following skills:
Creating a basic income statement.
Making collaborative decisions within a work team.
Using Microsoft Excel to manage and manipulate large amounts of data.
Using Microsoft Excel to describe complex information visually.

Instructions
1. Using the provided dataset and instruction videos, use Pivot Tables in Microsoft Excel to
construct an income statement for the 2019, 2020, and 2021 years.
2. Reflect carefully on what fields you choose to use for your revenues and expenses on your
income statement.
3. Add Sparklines to your income statement
4. Create at least one visual analytic in Excel that tells a story about your income statement.
5. Provide copies of your income statement (with Sparklines) and your analytic(s) in a Word
document and address each of the following questions in less than one hundred words each.
Requirements
1. What is the amount of revenue for the county for 2019-2021?
2. How much did the county sheriff spend in 2021?
3. Why did you select the revenue and expense names that you did from the various available
options?
4. What are the pros and cons of having more or fewer revenue and expense line items on the
income statement?
5. What is the story told by your visual analytic(s)?
