The success of any healthcare organization involves adapting and innovating to continuously improve processes. Change, however, is not simple; it often requires buy-in from multiple groups of people. For example, imagine your HSO is experiencing an acute nursing staff shortage, and you have researched an evidence-based strategy to attract new talent and incentivize veteran staff to stay. You will need the support of your HSO’s Board of Directors to implement your idea, which is comprised of diverse leaders with varying levels of familiarity with your HSO’s daily operations. If you were to informally ask Board Members whether they support your idea, some members who are already familiar with the nature and impact of the shortage might affirm the need to intervene and express enthusiasm for your proposal. Others, however, might feel unsure if an intervention is warranted or may express hesitance about your proposal’s risks. These members might need more background information about the problem and the evidence behind the intervention before they would offer support. As a scholar-practitioner, your role may involve translating research and other sources into actionable steps with justification, and this presentation Assignment can be practice for that task. In this Assignment, you will use the sources gathered in the Discussion to create a presentation for the Board at your selected HSO. This presentation will explain one issue in workforce or employment, synthesize the information found in the literature, and make recommendations and suggest action steps for addressing the issue. Your presentation should also assess how the organization can improve their stance on diversity, equity, and inclusion. To prepare: Review the best practices for presentations found in the Learning Resources. Research best practices for the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion within your type of HSO. Research best practices for recruitment and retention. The Assignment: 12- to 15-slide PowerPoint Presentation Prepare and deliver a presentation on your workforce issues for your HSO’s Board of Directors. You will submit both your slides and a video Kaltura presentation of your remarks to the Board. Use the following as a guide for creating your presentation: Slide 1: Title slide Slides 2–3: Background Provide a brief overview of current workforce issues that impact your HSO, such as recruitment, retention, workforce skill development, organizational culture, organizational promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, etc. Many workforce issues are interrelated, so your overview will provide Board Members with background knowledge and context to better understand the workforce issue you will discuss throughout the remainder of your presentation. Slides 4–5: Issue Briefly explain the workforce issue you chose to focus on and its impact on your HSO. In your explanation, describe the relationship between the workforce issue and your organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Slides 6–7: Evidence Synthesize and briefly explain what you found in the literature about the workforce issue. Slides 8–9: Recommendations Make recommendations for your HSO based on the evidence found in the literature about the workforce issue. Include recommendations for addressing both recruitment and retention related to your issue. Slides 10–11: Action Steps Describe three to four (3–4) action steps to implement the recommendations in your HSO. Include an explanation of how these action steps will improve your HSO’s alignment with best practices to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Slide 12: References Note: The number of slides given is a recommendation; you may need additional slides to adequately present the information, but do not exceed 15 in your final submission. Include visual elements (graphics, charts, tables, etc.), where appropriate, to help support your arguments. Slides should be clear, visually appealing, and in line with best practices for a presentation (see Learning Resources for more information). Use your video presentation to expound on some of your arguments, but ensure your remarks are clear and concise. Your video presentation should not exceed 15 minutes.
