For this assignment, I want you to write a response paper to a contemporary Broadway production.
You need to watch either Hamilton on Disney+ or Come From Away on Apple.
The assignment is very open ended. I want to know what watching a Broadway musical made you feel. You can focus on as many of the following as you would like, or write about a different element of the production that you were interested in.
The paper should be 2-3 pages double spaced, with a font that is no larger than 12 points. It should include a very brief synopsis of no more than a paragraph, and your own ideas of how you felt about the show.
This is a response paper about your opinions, so you shouldn’t need to cite things but if you do refer to quotes or facts from other sources, make sure you cite them appropriately.
Here are just a few things you might want to discuss. You don’t have to cover all of this, these are just ideas to get you started!
How is the musical style different from what you expected, or have seen in other shows?
In what ways did the set, lighting or costumes impact the production?
For Hamilton: Are there themes from the play, which takes place over 200 years ago, that are still relevant today?
For Come From Away what are some of the major themes you saw? How did it make you feel?
Do you have a favorite actor or actress in the show? Why?
Choreography is usually thought of as dance moves, but did you notice other types of choreography in this production?
These are just a few ideas! I want you to have fun with this paper, and really think about the impact that Hamilton and Come From Away have had on theatre audiences around the world.
