OVERVIEW
The Assessment Professional Interview Assignment is designed to help you connect assessment and research content in this course to the professional world of teaching, administration, assessment, and special education. Use the Assessment Professional Interview Template to complete this assignment.
INSTRUCTIONS
Select an individual to interview who meets the following criteria:
Full-time school district employee
Deals directly with the assessment of special education students and/or programs
Coordinates the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of special education academic and/or behavior data
Collects and analyzes special education student data
Works with academic support units to develop and assess special education services and/or outcomes
Assists special education teachers in evaluating the effectiveness of tests and test item
The individual you choose to interview must be an assessment professional who directly implements valid research-based assessment measures to facilitate and assess learning and behavioral interventions for individuals with disabilities and/or assess and evaluate special education research using best practice methods. The individual must determine if research variables are operationally defined and if research instruments are reliable and valid.
The individual you choose to interview could have several different professional titles.
[special education coordinator, testing coordinator, assessment coordinator, etc.]; however, you should not interview a guidance counselor for this assignment, even though some guidance counselors perform many assessment tasks. You are responsible for locating a viable individual; please do not contact the School of Education Field Office.
Schedule a time with the individual in which you can conduct the interview. Before the interview, develop the questions you plan to ask the interviewee. Your questions should prompt answers/discussion regarding:
Their role
Implementation of assessments
Facilitation of evidence-based practices
The evaluation of special education practices and/or best practices
The evaluation of special education students
Research variables
Research instruments
Once you have completed the interview, compile the following in the provided Assessment Professional Interview Template:
A brief introduction and description of the individual’s professional background
The interview questions.
Original interview notes information or evidence of the interviewee’s responses. This can be a scan of your handwritten notes.
A typed summary of the interviewee’s responses to each question. Further, develop the summary by discussing research related to valid research-based assessment and special education best practices. Ensure you comply with current APA formatting in this section.
