For the MLA paper, Essay 2, there are three main components of the paper:
1). Format- see sample paper link below. There is a specific heading required that you can see in the sample. The entire paper is double spaced in Times New Roman with a font of 11 or 12.
2). The parenthetical or in text citation within the paper- anytime you quote, summarize or paraphrase within your essay, you must give credit to your author. The first handout from Columbia College that is linked here provides a variety of examples.
3). The Works Cited page- this is the alphabetical list of all the sources you’ve used. It is the last page of your paper. There are samples of this with the first link from Columbia College and also the sample MLA paper.
Other sources that are good are the Owl at Purdue Writing Lab and Easy Bib. There are also helpful videos on MLA Format on YouTube which I can also link at a later date.

The link above is from Columbia College of Missouri. MLA format, 7th edition! I can no longer find the 8th edition version online but I will keep trying and update this if I can. This is a well organized guide to the basics you will need. If you want to print any of this, this is the one to do so as it gives you what you need and does not have an excessive amount of content.
