List three reasons for you to select your country of interest. Report the geographical characteristics of your country, and discuss the country’s location, population, and GDP/person. Identify the country’s major agricultural resource and primary products’ importing/exporting. List at least three of their top agricultural products. What is the import/export value or volume of these products? With which countries has the trade happened in recent years?
Analyze the country’s comparative and absolute advantages. Explain the criteria you use to define advantages in the economic context.
(25 points) Section 2 Trade Agreement (about 500 words).
Research and select one of their top trade agreements and describe the agreement. Research the country’s top export destinations and focus the discussion on the three agricultural products you selected in section 1). For each export destination country, list product(s) traded and trading volume/value, for at least five years.
Explain food trade policies and deliberate regulations related to agricultural products import/export.
Research and describe the country’s top import partner countries. What product(s) are purchased and in what volume/value? List and discuss at least three agricultural products.
Discuss import/export controls if there are any.
Select one most important agricultural products produced by your country of interest. Deliberate the impact of the country in the international trade marketplace for the selected product. Discuss the country’s bargaining power on trade for that product. For instance, China is the largest producer of garlic in the world marketplace, and thus it has strong bargaining power in terms of setting up export prices.
(50 points) Section 3 Trade with the U.S. (no limitation in length).
Explain the trade relationship between your country of interest and the U.S. Focus on at least two trade agreements relevant to food import/export.
Use USDA GATS data base.Links to an external site. For the one most important agricultural product you selected in section 2, describe the trading pattern with the U.S. for the past at least five years. What are the monthly import/export statistics for the past at least five years (raw data)? First, use a Table to present the raw data. Second, use a graph to show the trend of trade based on the raw data for the past at least five years. Third, use a regression analysis in Excel to conduct a basic regression analysis. Last, report and interpret your regression results. Based on your regression results, what conclusions can you draw? Elaborate at least three important conclusions. Are your conclusions relevant to California’s agricultural trade with your country of interest? How and why?
Does the U.S. have a trade surplus or a deficit for the above-selected product of interest? Are the U.S. and your country of interest trade partners or trade competitors in international food trade? Support your argument using at least three trade statistics and explain your argument.
