Investigative steps would include what items you might seize from the scene, what items you woud get tested at the crime lab and tested for what, who you might interview and what questions you would ask, information you would disseminate to other units working, etc. In coming up with your essay response, think about the main questions: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, and HOW.

Scenario:
There is a bank robbery where the suspect displayed a handgun, and was described to police dispatch as wearing a hat and a mask. He gave the bank teller a handwritten note demanding her to put all the money that was in her drawer into a bag. He left the note behind and was not wearing any gloves at the time of the robbery. The suspect was in such a hurry running towards the door of the bank that he tripped and his hat fell off. Then, right after the suspect exited the bank, he stepped in a patch of mud as he was running across the lawn and dropped a cell phone on the as he was fleeing from the scene. A witness outside stated that the suspect got into a black Honda Accord that was parked around the corner with a partial license plate of AC11***. The suspect headed south on Main Street.
There are a lot of “unknowns” in this scenario. How are you going to figure out who the suspect is, what he looks like, where the suspect lives, how much money did the suspect take, etc. ?
