The Personal Learning Application (PLA): The PLA is an individual assignment that tasks you with applying a theory, typology or concept covered in class to a workplace scenario. You may collect your “scenario” from the popular press or from your own work experience:
If you choose the Popular Press Scenario: You may read and choose an article from the popular press (e.g. Business Week, Fortune, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, etc.) to which you can subsequently apply theory. Many of the situations and dynamics described in the press can be explained or described using the theoretical concepts we cover in class. Your task is to choose an article that describes an appropriate business situation or scenario and then write a two-page paper that applies the theoretical construct (learned in class or from the textbooks).
The other PLA option is for you to relate a theoretical concept to a scenario you have experienced, or are experiencing, in a place where you have worked. If you choose this option, you will need to write a page that describes the workplace setting and scenario, and then write two pages that applies the theory to the scenario (for a total of three pages).
