For this project, you will research your topic and identify any specific policy that relates to your topic. Your final paper will consist of several specific components:
Statement of Issue/Problem Statement
Describe the specific issue that you have chosen to write about. What is the problem? How does it affect families in society?
Background of the problem/Literature Review
Include essential facts that would help someone who has never studied this issue. Describe statistics about who is impacted by the problem. Describe how families in society are impacted by the problem.
This section should be entirely made up of research articles.
Current and potential policy options for addressing the problem
Identify a current policy that addresses the specific problem you have chosen. You can choose federal or state-level policies or programs. You may also have found an organization that offers services to address the problem that might represent a promising policy option.
Advantages and disadvantages of each existing policy
Identify multiple intended and unintended advantages or disadvantages of the policy you have discussed.
Make sure that you explain advantages or disadvantages in detail (i.e., don’t just say “it costs too much” – tell me more about what impact that could have). You can also think of this as the pros and cons of each option.
Your recommendations for addressing the problem based on your research
After doing the research and going through each step of the analysis, pick one option you would recommend and give a detailed rationale as to why you chose this option. I expect that you will include some research statistics or use scholarly articles to support your choice
