3. Apply understanding of social work knowledge, values and ethics to new situations.
For this assignment, students will be producing a report for municipal politicians, helping them to understand what the role of social work in the face of the devastation we have experienced stemming from climate change.
Your audience are decision makers. They influence policies that impact people affected by natural disasters.
Your task is to develop a short, clear, easy to read report with headings and images/links that help to
clarify.
In effect, you are making a case to highlight the skillset of social workers and how they are essential to
this work. This should be evidence-based.
The report should address the following questions: “How can social work respond to, and prevent,
devastation stemming from climate change…
1. for individuals (micro);
2. for families and/or groups (mezzo); and,
3. for communities (macro)?”
In addressing each of these 3 topics, students are expected to address the following:
1. Anti-oppression theory
2. Social work skills
3. Social work ethics
Report Format
The recommendation report is 4-5 pages, not including a reference page. APA format, though title page is not necessary. It should be appealing so audience centred and professional in format. It should have headings for readability. Perhaps your headings could be questions as an example. Professionals in the field have limited time to view material so it is important to be concise and clear.
