This final assignment is designed so that students can synthesize course reading, materials and
learning. This is applied to creating a leadership succession plan. Students must draw on
theories, models and approaches and then apply these to a realistic plan that an I/O consultant
would develop for an organization.
Writing Instructions:
For the final project, develop a Succession Plan, including a leadership training program for a
company in the South Florida area. You have met with your client who’s shared they’d like to
develop leadership from within the company that is promotable to middle and upper levels of
management. The company shared they highly value managers who are effective leaders, they
highly value diversity and an inclusive work environment, and they consider their employees
their most important assets.
Assuming that there are no budgetary limitations, develop a succession plan strategy for
effective talent management (identifying appropriate talent from within the company),
leadership assessment, leadership training and development [can include formal and informal
learning opportunities (E.g., formal classroom and web-based training, mentorship, shadowing,
coaching, leap experiences, job rotation, etc.), and expected/predictive results of applying this
strategy in the company.
Your plan must be based on one of the four approaches listed below. Additionally, identify a
minimum of two (2) leadership assessments that will be used as part of the strategy. Address
any ethical considerations.
Choose one of these approaches on which to base your plan and training program:
 Servant Leadership
 Transformational Leadership
 Path-Goal
 Authentic Leadership

Additional Expectations:
 Present your Succession Plan strategy addressing the client’s needs in a business
proposal format (Any standard business proposal format found on the web will suffice).
 6 – 10 pages total. Paper is not to exceed 10 pages.
 Use these headings to develop your proposal:
 The sections of the project shall include the following in this order:
o Executive Summary
o Succession Plan (include ethical considerations here)
o Leadership Training Program (include training evaluation)
o Assessment (minimum of 2)
o Expected Results/Return on Investment
o References
o Appendix (E.g., sample training activities, outlines or supporting materials, etc.)
 Use an essay structure in APA format. Work to have a balanced response that includes
both proper review of factual material to establish a foundation along with your own
discussion, examples, and integration of the material. Support your point of view,
examples, and assertions with cited references.
