The purpose of this assignment is to give you practice at analyzing a student’s response to an instructional intervention and decide how to make future modifications to address the student’s learning needs. You will use the data collected in steps 1-7 of your project to decide how well your intervention plan is working for the student. To complete these steps, you will:
• Summarize the information from steps 1-7 of your RtI project including the a description of the student’s difficulties, your baseline data, your hypothesis about the student’s difficulties, and the intervention plan and data collection procedures you set up.
• Summarize the results of your intervention used and the progress the student made toward your goal as a result of these interventions. As a part of this, make sure you
report your progress monitoring data and interpret its meaning;
describe how you used the assessment data to guide your ongoing instruction as well as provide student feedback on progress;
Describe how you modified the pace of instruction based on student characteristics and assessment data.
• Include the raw data sheets being careful to redact any identifying information.
• Explain why you think your hypothesis was correct or how you might revise it, based on your intervention data.
• Describe how and why your plan changed in response to student assessment, needs, and response to intervention (making sure to connect it to your data).
• Decide whether the student’s progress was sufficient to meet the curricular goal that you set within the steps 4-7 assignment. If the student’s progress was not sufficient, speculate as to the reason.
• If you were to continue this project, describe what you would do with subsequent instruction for this student. As a part of this
describe how you would teach the student to continue monitoring his/her self-assessment in the area and to problem solve future difficulties;
describe how you would adapt the learning environment to provide optimal learning opportunities for the student;
use the data you’ve collected as well as the information obtained in steps 1-3 to suggest ongoing supports and/or modifications needed by the student to continue developing his/her skills within the LRE.
• Reflect on the Response to the Invention process and how it could address both the law and student achievement for students with mild/moderate disabilities within the general education classroom. What issues would you anticipate might come up in a real school setting and how would you address such issues?
