Essay Prompt: After attending the concert write a 3-4 page paper in which you compare and contrast one dance from the first act of the show with one dance from the second act of the show and answer the following questions:
Choose and describe 2 dances (THE FIRST DANCE I HAVE A RECORDING OF AND THE SECOND WAS A TRADITIONAL HISPANIC DANCE) from the show. One dance from the first act, and one dance from the second act.
In your opinion, what is the effect and/or meaning of each of the two dances you chose?
In what ways does each dance create its effect/meaning?
What similarities and/or differences are there between the effects created by the two dances and the ways in which each used space, compositional tools, movement/body, and production elements to create their effects?
In answering the prompt do the following things:
Perform a concise analysis of the dance performed using details such as movement style, levels, pathways, shapes, partnering/relationships, costumes, lighting, music, and/or set design.
Use specific examples to support your analysis of the dance through the use of descriptive language from the text and class.
Write as if you are describing the dance to someone who has not seen it before.
Formatting: Your paper must use the following formatting guidelines:
Write using proper, college level, English grammar.
Your paper should be 3-4 pages in total, be double spaced with 1” margins
Include a clear thesis statement in your introduction paragraph that explains what you are going to discuss in your paper.
End the paper with a clear, concise conclusion that reminds the reader of your point.
Use 12 point Times New Roman Font
All dance titles should be written in italics and concert names should be capitalized.
In the upper right hand corner of the paper include your full name, the papers due date, the name of the class and your section.
Include a title at the beginning of the paper.
