Objective: To use the steps of the R.A.C.E. formula to investigate and evaluate a real-world public relations crisis.
For this step, you will weave what you have researched, learned, and revised from the first four parts into one overall 8- to 10-page researched narrative PLUS a reference list. [No outlines are acceptable as final papers.] Integrate all of the improvement suggestions that you have received in feedback from your instructor on the previous stages of this assignment and correct all earlier errors at this point, using the library’s digital copy of the official Associated Press Stylebook to guide your grammar.
OVERALL COMMENTS: Throughout this staged assignment, you have been researching and describing what the organization in the scenario that you chose for Research Paper #2, Parts 1A and 1B, did right and what it did wrong, as it relates to public relations.
You should not let yourself become bogged down in management decisions, corporate policies, science, legal angles, and the like – stick to public relations and communications. Instead, your job has been to investigate and evaluate a public relations scenario from among the choices presented in these assignment materials. You should have focused on
Summarizing the public relations dilemma.
Describing how the company applied the public relations process to its dilemma, even if the company botched it;
Detailing the results of the company’s public relations effort.
Edit and compile your work for Parts 1-4 into a coherent whole and complete the paper by:
Evaluating whether the company’s public relations effort was successful. If not, why not?
Offering suggestions as to how the organization could have improved each step. These suggestions should not be your first-person opinions; rather, they should be based on credible and authoritative sources that you uncovered in rigorous research at each stage of this project and can present according to the American Psychological Association rules for documented research.
Some of this material may have been covered in Step 3, but for this last step, you are to write everything out in clear and logical paragraphs, which you stitch together into cohesive paragraphs that move smoothly from topic to topic.
Most importantly, review your instructor’s suggestions for improvement, questions, and any other feedback that was offered during the earlier steps of this assignment – and correct all errors.
You will be graded on the following:
the extent to which your paper shows how the company applied the principles and guidelines of public relations described in your course content
the thoroughness of your research and resulting descriptions, i.e., have you included a problem statement, a situation analysis, a definition of stakeholder groups, program objectives, the evaluation process, and all other pieces of the public relations process, as described in your text?
