1.Why do you suppose many young Americans are indifferent to their political world? Some have suggested that we pay scant attention to politics because we are doing well (we are affluent), but at the same time, some of the most “turned off” citizens are those with the most to gain from government action. Does this make sense? Use at least 2 – 3 concepts you learned throughout the semester to anchor your answer to this question. 
2.  Although equality is an essential element of American political culture, there is little agreement on exactly what it means and how to best achieve it. What are some of the different meanings of equality, and how have these different meanings produced conflict over the public’s role in addressing inequality? In your answer, be sure to discuss at least two specific controversies involving government action and equality.
3. No ideal is more central to American values than liberty. Discuss what Americans mean by liberty and some of the ways that this conception has changed over time. In your answer, be sure to discuss how liberty has influenced recent debates about public health, gun rights, and abortion rights.
4. Describe the process by which a bill becomes a US law. Outline the main steps a bill takes to become a law, noting the differences between the House and Senate. a. What are the major steps in the process? Trace the process from the introduction, committee action, floor action, conference committee action to presidential action.  What are the main differences in the legislative process between the two houses of Congress? Be specific. Note down the procedural differences.  Is it important that the backgrounds of Congress members reflect the population as a whole? Can members still represent their constituents effectively if they do not come from similar backgrounds? 
5. Describe and discuss the different powers of the president of the USA. Specifically, define the differences between the president’s expressed, implied, delegated, and inherent powers and provide an example of each.  What are some of the checks placed on these powers by the other branches of government?  Referring to the many powers of the President, what are the checks and balances of the other two branches of government on the Presidency? Is the check on the powers of the Presidency harmful or helpful for Democracy? 
6. Explain the circumstances why and how a case could reach the US Supreme Court by explaining the basic structure and jurisdiction of the courts in the federal judicial system (i.e. describe the three different levels of federal courts and how it operates).
