The purpose of this assessment is to enhance student’s understanding of the normal physiology for maintaining homeostatic balance inside the human body and the pathophysiological changes that lead to a disease. Students need to identify a patient with a disease of one of the systems taught in this subject for this case study. Patient’s confidentiality must be maintained in all submitted documents.
Steps to complete the case study:
1. Identify a patient with a disease affecting one of the following systems: cardiovascular, neurological, dermatological, musculo-skeletal, haematological, lymphatic or immune system
2. Search the literature to support the discussion
3. Prepare an outline of the case study:
[Introduction]
– epidemiology of the selected disease
– background information of the patient, e.g. demographics, health history, … etc
[Main content]
– normal structure and physiology of the body system involved
– etiology of the selected disease
– variations in the structure and the pathophysiology of the selected disease
– patient’s clinical manifestations of the selected disease
[Summary]
– summarize the discussion
[Reference list]
– in 7th APA referencing style
4. Write up the case study:
– Elaborate on the above outlined items in an organized and logical manner
– Do grammar and spelling check
– 1000 words in English (+/- 10%)
