The overall objective is for students to complete a scholarly written assignment at the collegiate level in relevance to information covered this course. Students will be expected to write a 5–10 page paper utilizing the steps outlined below:
Step 1: Select a domain/ area of focus relevant to the field of Human Development in psychology (I.e. cognitive, developmental disorders, family systems, attachment theory, biological basis of behavior, personality disorders, psychopathology, developmental disorders, psychological disorders, psychosocial development, etc.).
– Which area is of interest to you?
– Which area resonates with you the most?
Select a specific concept within the domain selected that is of most interest to you. The list of possible topics for this written assignment are endless. Keep in mind, you can write about anything that is of interest to you as it relates to topics covered in this course!
Three R’s: Relatable, Relevant, Reliable
Step 2: Select three peer reviewed journal articles related to your topic of choice. The articles will either support or contrast information presented in the textbook and/or studied in this course. Topics selected must be empirically supported, hence the use of empirically supported peer review articles.
Step 3: Write a 5-10 page paper answering the following 5 questions:
1) Why did you choose this particular topic and article(s) to write about? What did you find interesting about the topic?
2.) What were the main idea of the article? Briefly Summarize the article.
3.) Is the article relevant to the field of psychology/ how has this research benefited the field?
4.) Were the findings significant or not significant?
5.) Overall, what did you learn? For example, did the information reiterate/support or contradict/contrast what was learned in this course? Do you agree or disagree with the findings in the articles in comparison to what was studied in this course/ or presented in the textbook? State your opinion….
Written Assignment Requirements: As discussed in class and as printed in the syllabus requirements for this written assignment are as follows:
1.) Paper should be in APA format.
2.) Paper must be typed and 5-10 pages in length. Handwritten assignments will not be accepted.
3.) Follow APA’s formatting/font/ margin requirements.
4.) Paper should be checked for grammatical, syntax and spelling errors. There are online tools such as Grammarly that may be helpful. However, you are not required to download Grammarly or any synonymous program. This is a suggestion ONLY.
5.) At least three peer reviewed journal articles referenced throughout paper
6.) A title page is required and must include your name, class and title of paper.
