I need an essay, outline and Annotated Bibliography!
It is your time to be a theorist: write a 4-5 page essay on the theory of your choice. Choose from one of the units we have studied this semester and pick one of the theoretical readings. Using that theory as a lens, analyze a cultural text (book, film, commercial, political event, videogame plot…etc). Find at least one secondary reading to include in your essay.
Required Texts:
One theoretical text we studied this semester
(Aristotle’s “Poetics”, Shklovsky’s “Art as Technique”, Marx, The Communist Manifesto, Saussere, “Nature of the Linguistic Sign”, Freud’s writings, Gilbert and Gubar, Sedgwick, TRC Introduction, Morrison, “Recitatif”)
One secondary source that we have not studied, must be peer reviewed!!!
One cultural text (book, film, commercial, political event, videogame plot, etc.)
Prompting Questions:
How does this text exemplify the theory? How does this theory illuminate the text in a new way? How does this theory structure the text? How is this theory rejected by the text? How does the text build on this theory?
