For our third essay, you will be looking into one of the more problematic aspects of the internet and asserting an argument about how to address that problem. You will also be required to respond to some sort of counterargument.
Requirements:
A strong thesis statement
2 sources of at least high tier that support your argument
A counterargument
12 point font, double spaced, Times New Roman
4-6 pages
Brainstorm on what you think is the most problematic, difficult, or dangerous thing about the Internet. In a 4-to-6-page paper, you should explain this problem and how we can address it.
This essay should do the following, in approximately this order:
Define the problem, with examples, in detail.
Explain, the examples, the extent and nature of the problem.
Explain whether you think the problem is caused by the internet or made worse by it, how, and why.
Provide one or more reasonable and achievable solutions.
You will also need to provide a counterargument. The location of this counterargument in the essay and what it addresses will depend on your argument.
Keep in mind that none of the internet’s problems exist in isolation of each other. You should pick one problem to focus on, but will likely address more than one problem as they connect to each other over the course of your essay.
Feed back Notes on our Meeting – Go into more specific detail with some examples of misinformation. For example, include more specifics about what sort of misinformation surrounded COVID, who was spreading it, who believed, why, and what harm this caused. Talk about how all this is encouraged not just by people but by the structure of the internet. Consider – do you think misinformation is simply WRONG information, or does it require some degree of willful misstatement?
