Final Written Reflection:
The purpose of this paper is for you to reflect meaningfully on your experience/project. A truly meaningful reflection should be at least 2-3 full pages, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, and 1 inch margins all the way around. Your paper should address the following questions:
* Explain what you did for your social action project. (Report the issue addressed and the facts and events of your experience, objectively.)
* Thoughts and reflections on your social action experience. (Reflect on and analyze your experience of carrying out your social action.)
* Course connections. (Connect your social action project experience to specific course concepts and ideas.)
Some questions to help you with the above…remember these are suggestions. You do not need to answer each of the questions in your final reflection paper.
Explain what you did for your social action project. Provide a very detailed description of what you carried out for your social action, the issue addressed, and the population served.
* What issue is being addressed?
* What social action did you take?
* What happened?
* What did you observe?
* What population is being served?
Thoughts and reflections on your social action experience. Provide your reflections and thoughts on your experience carrying out your social action.
* Did you learn a new skill or clarify an interest?
* Did you hear, see, smell, or feel anything that surprised you?
* How is your experience different from what you expected?
* What impacts the way you view the situation/experience?
* What did you like/dislike about the experience?
* What did you learn about the people/community?
* What are some of the pressing needs/issues in the community?
* How does this project address those needs?
* What seem to be the root causes of the issue addressed?
* What learning occurred for you in this experience?
* How can you apply this learning?
* What would you like to learn more about, related to this project or issue?
* What follow-up is needed to address any challenges or difficulties?
* What information can you share with your peers or the community?
* If you could do the project again, what would you do differently?
Course connections. Describe the ways that your social action connects to the course material. Apply your sociological imagination and sociological language here.
* How does your social action address an issue discussed in our course?
* What social theories can you apply to better understand the social issue you addressed by your social action?
* How can you apply specific course concepts to your experience?
The details: 2-3 pages. ALSO- you must include at least 5 photos of your social action. Include them at the end of your paper AND in your Taking Social Action discussion post.
*****You should complete a log entry each time you work on your project.*****
I would suggest creating a file using a Word document and editing it each time you work on your project. Completed logs will be uploaded to Canvas.
Your log must include ALL 5 HOURS that you spent working on your project, whether those hours are direct or indirect. You can use the following format to log your hours:
