Critically analyse ‘X Case’. The case study will be provided to you.
The analysis needs to address the following key areas:
1. Provide a summary of the case.
A) Seek out the main points of the case.
B) Identify the legal issues of the case at the time: Duty of care, Constitution, rights of the unborn child, rights to life – consider European Convention of Human Rights
C) Identify the ethical issues of the case at the time: Rights of the mother, freedom infringement – consider European Convention of Human Rights and inspiration from HIQA Human Rights-Based Approach
D) Describe the cultural context that the time of the case
2. Discuss how EU law surpassed Irish Law following the case of X
3. Reflect on the case, the outcome and the implications for best practice in health and social care today, e.g. What legislative/policy changes have occurred since this case that have a direct impact on your work? How has this case impacted your work both personally and professionally?

A. The assignment should be informed by textbooks, Acts of the Oireachtas, journal articles and web-based resources, all of which of which must be referenced in accordance with the standard Harvard referencing.
