As you learned, we do not need to consume micronutrients every single day, but rather with regularity to maintain the required amounts within our bodies. This week, we are going to make our second (and last) assessment of our micronutrient (and macro-) intake from FOOD to assure that we are consuming sufficient quantities with regularity. This is a tedious, time-intensive assignment, so you have 2 weeks to work on it. Please try to eat WELL, as you will learn much more about micronutrition if you do. This assignment is worth 50 points because it is time-intensive.
1. Please view this video for instructions on this assignment.
2. Download a copy of the spreadsheet you saw in the video.
3. Before you start,
Remember to use the data from Nutrition Facts labels on foods to complete as much of the worksheet as possible.
Use The FoodData Central website to look up foods without labels. Please watch this video before looking up foods at the FoodData site, as it can be a little confusing.
If you eat out, request nutrition information from the restaurant or look up those details at a restaurant’s web site or try to find them under the tab “Branded Foods” at the FoodData site.
If you cook at home, do your best to include data on each ingredient used in your recipe. It’s a pain, I know, but it MATTERS for your learning. Please go the extra mile for your health!
After you complete the assignment described on the video, write a detailed analysis of your current MICRO-nutrition findings based on what you learned in modules 8 & 9. No need to analyze macro-nutrition for this assignment. Leave that for a future week.
Submit your data collection sheets, your nutrition assessment form, and your written analysis (item 3 above) for a grade. Be sure that you upload all 3 items BEFORE clicking the Canvas submit button.
