Identify and briefly summarize the relevance of a character, character’s actions or decisions, scene(s), themes, plotlines, etc. that raise questions, concerns, or ideas important to metaphysics, epistemology, or identity that we have read and/or discussed this semester.
Choose one philosopher we have read thus far. Explain and critically apply his/her ideas in order to clarify, broaden, and/or deepen our understanding of the philosophical considerations regarding your choice from Section 1. For example, you might draw upon Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” to analyze Neo’s life before and after he meets Morpheus (from Matrix).
Make an argument that either defends or critiques the thinker you have selected. For example, if you use Descartes to claim that Matrix accurately depicts why our senses cannot be trusted to provide us with clear and distinct knowledge of the world, explain why his analysis is justified. If you think Descartes is wrong, then explain why and what other theory might provide better philosophical insight and guidance for acquiring truth. In either case, you must include a counter-argument from a different thinker we have read and/or discussed
