Organize and present a 15-20-slide powerpoint slideshow (or written critique) that evaluates 3-5 recent works of ONE of the following:
a film or TV director (e.g. Martin Scorsese OR The Duffer Brothers OR Jordan Peele etc.)
an actor (e.g. Shah Rukh Khan OR Kerry Washington OR Steve Yeun etc.)
a composer or production designer or cinematographer (e.g. Ludwig Goransson OR Hannah Bleacher OR Rodrigo Prieto etc.)
franchise producer (e.g. Marvel Avengers OR Disney Princess etc.)
Evaluate those examples in the context of what your chosen creator should do to push their work forward and remain fresh and relevant. Include 5-10 recommendations, with details, for their next project for Studio XYZ. Submit your creative critique as a pre-recorded 6-8 minute presentation addressed to the creator you have chosen OR as a 3-5 page written memo* using the supplied template.
NOTE: the slide counts offered below are estimates. Remember movies are a visual medium. Enhance your ideas with relevant and aesthetically pleasing and consistent design and visual elements. (If you are doing the written version of this assignment, consider the slide recommendations as numbers of paragraphs. You do not need visuals but you do need polished grammar and strong writing.)
Include a title page with the name of your show, and your (and your partner’s) name(s) on that slide. Identify which creator your evaluation and critique is addressed to. (1 slide)
Even though this presentation is addressed to the creator you have chosen, they have egos – include a short description of them or their work to show you know your subject (1-2 slides)
Evaluation (6-8 slides). Answer the following for each of the 3-5 examples of your creator’s most recent work:
What is the title, date of release, and your creator’s role for this example?
Give a quick plot summary of this example and other highlights (actors or other creatives involved)
Who was the target audience for this example?
What was the response to this example (critics, awards, financial success etc.)
3. Recommendations (5-8 slides) Detail 5-10 steps/changes/ideas you believe your creator needs to consider for their next project:
What new kinds of representation can your creator explore that they haven’t already?
What kinds of storytelling (genre or narrative styles) would make their next project more relevant?
In what ways can your creator challenge or continue to challenge tropes/stereotypes/beauty standards or conventions?
What new musical/cinematographic/design or technology would enhance their future project?
How can they reach audiences who may not have been engaged with their work in the past?
What partnerships or collaborations could refresh their work?
4. Finally, end with a REFERENCES slide citing any reviews and secondary sources etc. you used in your presentation. (1-2 slides)
NOTE: This is a college-level project so DO NOT use any AI tools to write the content. Use general understandable college-level vocabulary. Please read and follow all the instructions carefully. Please mention references and citations in the file. Finally, if you can slides and a memo then it would be really appreciated.
