The final paper/core assignment for SOWK 5313 – Practice I is a practice analysis paper including identification of relevant practice tools (practice assessment instruments and measurement tools), and discussion of their appropriateness for specific clients and client problems.
Students will conduct a comprehensive case review that identifies a client and provides sufficient information about his or her presenting history, circumstances, strengths and challenges. The written paper will require application of course concepts to the case analysis along with development goals and tools for measurement and evaluation. Specific objectives include: (1) the analysis of client’s current circumstances, (2) development of therapeutic goals based on identified need, and (3) identification/selection of appropriate assessment and measurement tools for assessing the client’s circumstances and potential therapeutic change over time (e.g., anxiety, stress, substance use, depression, parent-child conflict).
The paper is not a practice intervention/treatment paper. It is geared toward assessment and understanding the range of topics and subjects covered in the course. It is intended to strengthen understanding of evidence-based practice, measurement, data collection, and evaluation.
