You will choose one of the works we have read as the basis of your research. You do not have to limit your research to one particular aspect of the story, such as character or theme. The works include the following: “A Worn Path” (Welty) “The Lottery” (Jackson) “Cathedral” (Carver) “The Man to Send Rain Clouds” (Silko) “The Tell-Tale Heart” (Poe) For your assignment, you will prepare an annotated bibliography of four secondary sources pertaining to the topic of your paper. Your sources should be articles included in scholarly journals or chapters in books. Do NOT cite any sources from general encyclopedias, Wikipedia, or Internet search engines such as Google. Also, do not cite any book reviews or general overviews of the work. You must limit your sources to literary analyses found in scholarly, academic publications. You must also attach a two-page cover report providing the following information: * Describe your research process. How did you locate your sources? Be specific – do not say you just looked them up in the library. Identify the specific databases you used, such as Literature Resource Center, MLA Bibliography, etc., or the print sources in the library’s reference department. * Which secondary source was the most helpful to you in expanding your knowledge of the subject? Why? Was it perhaps the author’s depth of knowledge, clarity of style, references to other scholarly works? * Finally, what exactly did you learn about your author and his or her work that you had not known before?
