Your proposal should include the following features:
CredentialsFor you (if relevant) or for any outside contractors you want to
involve. Feel free to give yourself hypothetical credentials, but make sure these credentials are consistent throughout the document (you cannot be a tech wizard on page 1 and a HR specialist on page 3, for example).
Existing TargetYour target reader must work for an actual company or
organization. The existing organization must be identified in the proposal.
BudgetYou must calculate the monetary impact of your proposal, even if you are suggesting a change in policy. Think about who must perform what and how much that person’s time costs. You should also factor in any materials and hardware costs. If it is relevant, your proposal might look at renting versus buying equipment or contracting labor versus hiring a full-time position or doing the work in-house.
ScheduleYou should give an estimate of the timeframe of your proposal. Be as detailed if you can: if your proposal involves multiple steps, indicate when each step should be accomplished rather than giving only a total end date and nothing else.
Numerical GraphicYou must include a graphic that involves numerical data, such as
a bar graph, line graph, pie chart, table, etc. You must have at
least one graphic that you yourself have constructed, though
you are free to include multiple graphics from outside sources.
ReferencesYour final Proposal should have a references section at the end
with at least seven research sources. Two of these sources must
be scholarly or professional in nature. You should also use
parentheses to cite any sources that are used in the body of the
Proposal.
FormatUse a title page with your name, class, and title (use a more
creative title than “Proposal Project”). The document should be in 12 point font and should include page numbers. Other design features are at your discretion: remember, the goal is to make a document with a professional appearance. The proposal should be six pages long at minimum and no longer than ten pages. These page lengths do not include the title page or the reference (or works cited) section.
