DIRECTIONS: Using APA format, type a thoughtful analysis case study paper addressing the following areas as
outlined below. Include a cover page and reference page. In addition to the video use at minimum 3 other
references (your textbook can be used). Cite your sources in the body of the paper. All citations listed on
reference paper must be cited in the body of the paper. Use proper grammar, paragraph format, spelling, and use
header topics throughout the paper. The paper must include a cover and reference page. Use font size 12, New
Times Roman. Double-spaced throughout the paper. An introductory and conclusion are part of an APA formatted
paper. The introduction leads into your analysis (Set the stage, name of character/s, the setting, the decade in
time, the situation the characters find themselves in, etc.) and the conclusion at the end ties everything together.
1. Identify and describe the etiology/pathology of the main character/s as related to your concept and
exemplar/s. Compare and contrast the signs and symptoms from your textbook to what you observed.
2. How were the main character/s assessed and diagnosed (any assessment tools used?). Any diagnostic or
lab tests? Identify the best evidence-based practice for the treatment of the character/s disorder.
3. Was the setting of the environment (such as in-patient versus outpatient)? Or was treatment given at all?
Identify safety issues. What might you have done differently to keep the environment safe (quality
improvement)?
4. Were any pharmacological therapies used? If so what? Was this appropriate for the character? Explain
your rationales and what might be considered. What is the role and responsibilities of the nurse regarding
pharmacological therapies?
5. Were any behavior modifications therapies used or other treatment modalities and describe how it was
implemented. What would be the role of the nurse as part of an interdisciplinary team in these therapies
(communication, clinical decision making)?
6. What does holistic care mean in the mental healthcare environment and how could that be applied in the
situation the character/s found themselves (teamwork/collaboration).
Was there any evidence of patient-centered care? Explain your rationale to support if there was or was
not.
7. How was the patient information documented and stored; Any evidence of HIPPA? Informatics?
8. Where is this character/s on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs? For the character’s age group what is
Erickson’s developmental milestone? How could the application of this knowledge help you the nurse in
caring for this patient (theory to practice)?
9. Using the steps of the nursing process, identify one or two top priorities with a goal and identify
appropriate nursing interventions (Critical Thinking, communication, assessment).
10. Describe how this experience added to your body of nursing knowledge about this specific mental health
concept/exemplar. This is not the conclusion of the paper.
