Critical Analysis and Application
This section is the substance of your book critique. In this section, you should discuss the significance of the book to the topic covered, how the book relates to your understanding of the topic both from class and/or personal experiences, and how the knowledge learned from the book can be applied to help the group covered within it. Support all your judgments with evidence from the book, the textbook, and scholarly sources.
Your main point will be considered your thesis statement so it should be written well and concise, and it should be the first sentence. An example of your thesis statement using one of the examples above could be: Because parents going through a divorce face many stressors that also impact their children, it is imperative that before a divorce is finalize the parents must attend parenting classes, family counseling, and individual counseling.
This section of the book critique can be considered a mini-research paper because you have a point that you are trying to make (thesis statement) that you will have support with specific examples from the book (through paraphrasing with pages numbers) and academic journal articles (through paraphrasing).
In this section 80% of the analysis is you, while support material (from the text or academic sources) should make up only 20%. The reason for this is that you must show you understand the topic, can critically think, and can effectively use sources as support material only. Do not use first person in this section. (Your critical analysis and application section should be no more than 3 pages.)
