1. INTRODUCTION: The first section should contain a brief explanation of your topic and some background information (from your sources). Imagine you have done a needs assessment and describe the needs of the students, school or community. Cite sources where appropriate.
a. What is your topic?
My topic is how to make school more accessible for those with disabilities by providing them with the proper tools and equipment to succeed. By making the environment more inclusive each and every child will be able to benefit from education.
b. What does the reader need to know in the introduction? Summarize what you’ve learned from your research. Cite sources where appropriate.
From my research I have learned that most schools do not have the proper equipment to help students with disabilities and it is very hard to accommodate them with the lack of resources. For example, as stated in the article “Most Classroom Teachers Feel Unprepared to Support Students With Disabilities” “Less than 1 in 5 general education teachers feel “very well prepared” to teach students with mild to moderate learning disabilities.” (Mitchell, 2019). This is a problem as students with disabilities are clearly not getting the help they need in the classroom.
c. What needs are your trying to address through your grant?
Needs that I want to address are technology that helps students with disabilities along with equipment like installing ramps, wheelchairs for physical education, iPads, and more adaptive equipment. I want the students with the disabilities to be able to socialize and feel they have the same opportunity as their peers who are not affected.
2. NEEDS & PROPOSAL: The next section should tell the reader what you specifically proposing, how it will address the identified needs, and why you need grant funding (be specific). The maximum grant award is $20,000. Include a list of estimated expenses (you can make these up). Cite sources where appropriate.
a. What are you proposing? How does your proposal address those needs?
I am proposing that with proper funding and equipment I will be able to with the help of my staff make school more inclusive and give each student the opportunities they need to succeed. My proposal addresses those needs by attaining the proper equipment in order to help those that need it.
b. Why do you need grant funding?
The grant funding is needed to help those with disabilities and help update outdated equipment as well as bring in new equipment to help them excel and build on their education by trying to erase any limiting factors.
c. Make a list of estimated expenses (a budget not to exceed $20,000).
• Wheelchairs- 3000
• Ramps- 4000
• Ipads-3000
• PE adaptive equipment-3000
• Tactile Graphic displays-2000
• Additional school supplies-2000
• Captioning Transcription Devices-3000
3. PROPOSAL IDEAS AND SOURCES: Identify your proposal ideas and where possible, support them with evidence (credible sources and citations). Use as many lines as you need.
a. Idea with evidence/source with citation.
Bringing in more technology to help individuals with disabilities is a huge advantage for those who need it. These technologies may help these students with communication, auditory needs, etc. Students with these technologies are able to complete classwork as well as communicate with teachers according to the article this technology is able to help even those without disabilities.
