1. Your story must be about you or someone you personally know.
2. Writing about someone you personally know. It must include an explanation as to why you are
writing about this person. Do they have a great influence in your life and how.
3. It must be about aviation or space. It could be a flying experience; either as pilot, passenger, or
some other circumstance but aviation is part of your story.
4. Targeted word count is 800-words +/-, a space and half.
5. Use of proper grammar and spelling.
6. The paper should have structure. Present your story methodically and purposefully. It should
have a beginning; layout what you are going to present and why. It written in a way so to
capture the reader’s attention and want to read more. Provide good character description of the
person you are writing about so that the reader will have a good understanding of why might
have attracted to this person. The main body should be focused but adding side stories that
would bolster the situation to the reader, is encouraged. You don’t need to use actual names,
that is up to you. You closeout the paper summarizing the highlights of your story and reiterate
why you are telling this story. What are the lessons you have learned and why. What things
would have done or will differently in the future.
Nice to haves that will improve your grade:
1. Include anything you have learned from this semester class.
2. Be more than 800-words but does not read as superfluous.
3. You can include historical facts if it adds definition to your story or clarity.
4. Diagram and pictures or photos (no copyright restricted) if it adds to your story.
5. Is it humorist and some wit, is it extremely captivating, informative?
Grading: Grading will be based on the “Must Haves” as a minimum and the “Nice to Haves” for extra
credit.
Recommendations:
1. Start early: write notes about what you want to write about and decide if you will have enough
thought to put on paper.
2. Capture ideas, events that you want to include in the paper.
3. Spend some time gathering additional information if necessary.
4. Write your first draft and don’t be concerned about word count. Ask yourself, did you include
everything I want to write about?
5. Prepare more than 1-draft, set aside each time, and see how it might change when you revisited
it.
6. Have someone else read your drafts and ask for their opinion.
