Review The Lost Soul of the American Presidency by Stephen Knott. Use Chicago Style Footnotes and formatting; double-space your paper; use 12 point Times New Roman Font; put page numbers in the lower right hand corner. Use the directions from section 3d-1 from Rampolla’s Pocket Guide to Writing in History for guidelines. Your paper should be between 1000-2000 words.
Begin with an introduction that explains your thesis, the author’s thesis and credentials, and outlines the rest of your paper. Then most of your paper should be dedicated to summarizing the most important evidence that the author uses to support his thesis. In your last 2-3 paragraphs you should evaluate the author’s use of evidence, compare the book with other books or articles (you can use McClay or JSTOR) on the subject, and conclude with a final evaluation of the book by discussing who would find it useful and why.
Anything containing plagiarism or AI generated or edited text will receive a zero. Remember that plagiarism is representing someone else’s thoughts or words as if they were your own. If the ideas you wrote came from someone else, they must be cited properly. If your words came from someone else, they must be in quotation marks and cited properly. If you don’t do those things you are committing plagiarism and will get a zero on the assignment–at minimum.
Upload your paper to Turnitin below as a .docx file. Don’t forget that you have to upload your paper, then preview it, then hit the submit button. Then look in the grade book to make sure it was properly submitted. If you see an icon that looks like a paper, you did it right. If you see a dash that looks like this (-), you have done something wrong. You can always check in the “Grades” section of Canvas to see if I have graded your paper. Review the syllabus for grading criteria and the late work policy. Anything plagiarized, turned in late, or in the wrong format will receive a grade of zero.
Like all assignments, you should know that I’m looking to see if you used good sources and demonstrated the learning objectives that are in the syllabus.

You must use primary sources (the documents I provide with each assignment) and
secondary sources (your textbook and articles from jstor.org) on every writing assignment
and these sources must be cited correctly in Chicago Style Footnotes. See the Rampolla
book for further instructions on Chicago Style footnotes. If you don’t do this, expect to get
half credit in the categories regarding style and evidence.
