Assignment #2: Special Topics in Child Welfare: Part 1 This is a 2-part assignment. A paper and a discussion forum “presentation” of your topic. Your paper is worth 35 points, the discussion forum “presentation” is worth 10 points, and an additional 10 points will be assigned to your peer to peer engagement in Module 8’s discussion forum. You will see this reflected in Module 8 discussion forum weighted as 20 points possible. 
Individually OR in small groups (2-3), choose a topic or theme from the Lash text and/or other resources to further research, write and present about. If you work in small groups, you will each need to upload individual papers (although there can certainly be overlap and similarities) and you only need to produce one common “presentation”. We will brainstorm and be introduced to “special topics” throughout the semester AND in our final live session Nov 14th.
Part 1 – Your paper should range around 5-pages in length and address the following:
1) Introduction and overview of the Issue. Identify and describe the topic you are researching and why. What is it? How widespread is it (i.e., the “scope of the issue”)?
2) Review of the research & literature. Explain the history of the issue and what is known. Define at-risk factors and populations. Include relevant literature from credible text, journals, and other sources.
3) Interventions, Services, Policy Implications: Provide information regarding current (local, state and/or national) programs, services and policy available to mitigate the problem, as applicable. 
4) Conclusion. Summarize the current status of the issue. Include your personal thoughts with corroborating support from the literature about the current and future development of solutions you feel are significant in addressing the issue. Also include how this topic is important to know about for any social worker, regardless of whether or not they are working in or pursing a career in child welfare. 
You MUST INTEGRATE AND CITE THE LASH TEXT-When the welfare people come ( Lash Don) and include and cite appropriately any and all other resources you draw from. You should shoot for at least 5 sources in total. This should be a combination of the Lash text, scholarly articles no more than 10 years old, and any other credible sources such as those from course materials.
